Poemlets and Haiku

Lunch Haiku

A brown beetle in my lunch?

No, just a squashed raisin.

L.A. Spring

Beneath dull gray skies

jacaranda trees shower purple blossoms.

Birds at the Feeder

Finches' metallic chirp:

A sparrow stole their food.

Doves, I

Language of doves – A dance

Wings open like Japanese fans.

Doves, II

Dove lands on the railing,

A loose feather wafts up to the sky.

Superior Court, I

Gray and brown drab.

Employees all suffer dyspepsia.

Superior Court, II

God resides in this penny I found

On the floor at Superior Court.

Senka Café, Little Tokyo

Cool egg salad

Pale green ceramic plate;

Ellipses of cucumber.

Pond

Two white herons

soaring silent over dark pond,

Reflections like clouds.

Summer

Summer heat has come early this year.

Faded dust is everywhere.

Dracaena

Slender leaves of Lucky Bamboo

Uncanny grace—

Motionless, they dance.

Wonder

Surprise visit,

I was not still enough

For the hummingbird.
